If they have high blood pressure, than they should be checked for FMD. There are charts that report what is a normal blood pressure for a child of a certain age and height. In terms of having your sons checked, if they are children, most importantly they need to be screened for high blood pressure. It tends to present in children and younger individuals and you are right that it can be more aggressive in terms of narrowing of blood vessels (perhaps less aggressive than medial type in terms of dissections or aneurysm). Intimal type FMD is a very different type of FMD than the more common medial type. So in answer to your question, this is not planned for a major analysis, but the registry would be able to track if there were a significant number of patients with FMD who have parathyroid problems.ĭr_Gornik: Dear Ghennet. There is no known link between calcium metabolism and FMD. The FMD patient registry, sponsored by FMDSA and coordinated by the University of Michigan is a 7 site registry collecting information about FMD patients including their past history, symptoms that led to diagnosis, extent of vascular disease in FMD, imaging studies, procedures, and clinical outcomes. There are a number of ongoing research projects in which we are participating at Cleveland Clinic, and I can only address those projects.
